The Borough and Township are jointly working on an integrated trail ecosystem plan for Chester. We have the assistance of Conservation Resources Inc. to help with the mapping and the creation of the ChesterTrails.org website. The goal of the project is to gather the many trails that crisscross Chester on one "map" and provide information on points of interest, especially historic and natural sites. The Chester Historical Society is supporting this project financially and by providing historical information. Additional information on farm stands, community gardens, recreation, restrooms, restaurants, shops, artwork, and trail head locations will be provided. We will also recommend future developments to make the trails more useful, accessible, and safe.
We recognize that there will be diversity in the users of the trail ecosystem, seeking different balances of exercise, reflection, observation, isolation, or camaraderie. Some will be hiking and/or biking, some pushed in or pushing wheelchairs or strollers. Some will want to go 20 miles, others will be content with 20 minutes. The maps and resources this project will make available on its website and via smart phone, will help users plan an outing and maximize their enjoyment and education while on the trail.
The Chester Trails committee will hold a Public Meeting on October 20 at the Chester Borough Field House (107 Seminary Ave., behind the Shoprite parking lot) to give residents, business people, and visitors an opportunity to make suggestions and provide input during the development of the integrated trails plan. The meeting will start at 7PM. Chester Historical Society members are encouraged to come and contribute. Let us know your favorite historic sites and trails in Chester.
